We are very pleased to be able to share this live recording made at PSKaufman Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles on January 20th, 2019. This recording documents a unique collaboration between musician and painter Arrington de Dionyso (playing bass clarinet and saxophone on this session) and the members of Gamelan Suara Baru.

Gamelan Suara Baru is an experimental Javanese gamelan collective based out of California Institute of the Arts. The brainchild of composer/performer, Sean Hayward, the group is known for its far-reaching collaborations. Recent projects include a full length album of original compositions for gamelan and metal music (to be released in April 2019), and an evening length performance of Lou Harrison’s gamelan works at REDCAT.

In the spirit of forging closer ties between students and lovers of Indonesian music in the US and communities of artists in need living in Indonesia, we offer the music contained herein in a spirit of peace and friendship to our peers in Palu, Sulawesi who are rebuilding their lives after suffering from a devastating earthquake and tsunami on September 30 2018. Any and all funds raised by downloading this recording will be directed to one of several different musicians in a position of community leadership in Palu.
