Recorded in Semarang, Java, Indonesia in November 2015

HMMM is a fantastic avant-music trio from Semarang. They are influenced equally by traditional Javanese trance music, No Wave, and Gospel. The guitarist Fredian Bintar reports being a huge Derek Bailey fan, and in some of singer Jane's vocal work I wonder if there isn't a bit of a Yoko Ono influence as well, but the music they make together with Riskia on drums is all their own and unlike anything else I have ever heard happening in contemporary Indonesian music.

This album is a true gem for anyone who loves Taureg guitar. I can't believe this is one of the forerunners for the genre, but upon listening it's not a surprise. The complete production is beautiful. The vocals are really excellent, but my favorite aspect is the talent on the guitar, so intriguing & expertly composed ©ough©ool
